Case Studies
Project: Tacoma Landfill — Superfund Site, Tacoma, WA
Problem: Well manifold and mainline (well #1 to well #3) plugged with iron bacteria and slime. Low flow rate of 32 gpm.
Treatment: Injected C02 with maximum flow from well #1.
Yield: Pre-treatment flow was 32 gpm; post-treatment flow was 114 gpm
Percentage Improvement: 256% (maximum pump capacity)
Notes: Residual C02 pumped from wells has cleaning effect on mainline pipe system.
Project: Tacoma Landfill — Superfund Site, Tacoma, WA
Well Description: Groundwater extraction wells; 6 and 8 inch wells in sand/gravel formation. Typical 5 to 10 feet of stainless screen.
Problem: Landfill built without liner over an aquifer.
Treatment: Acid treatment, minimal effectiveness and short life between treatments continued production decline.
Yield:
Well #2 | Well #3 | Well #4 | Well #22 | |
Pre-Treatment | 14 gpm | 8 gpm | 19 gpm | 47 gpm |
Post-Treatment | 39 gpm | 25 gpm | 31 gpm | 82 gpm |
% Improvement | 178% | 212% | 63% | 74% |
Notes: Pilot project was very successful. WRS Inc. was awarded 21 additional well treatments from the Landfill.
